Welcome to My Blog

 <dc:description>
Those of you who know me, or party with me, know the kind of lifestyle I live. I am basically an opioid researcher, in the real sense (I teach and do research at a prominent US University) and in the nominal sense (I am an opioid addict who loves to do opiates as well as other interesting drugs like cocaine analogues like WIN36,065-2 {by far the best I've done} and some things I've come up with myself {mefloqualone}. The opioids that are the best are the propionanilides like fentanyl, alpha methyl fentanyl, para-fluoro-fentanyl and others that you probably haven't heard of unless you live in China or in Russia.

I work on splice variants of the opioid receptors as well, and one thing I have noticed lately is how slowly it is that information has started to travel in the pharmacology field unless it is in your specialty. No longer can we simply categorize h?OR's as mu1, mu2, kappa-x or delta-x . The truth is that we do not know how the splice variants of the h?ORs relate to the m1 /mu2, kappa1, etc. receptors. We know that physiologically, the mu receptor combines with one or two other mu receptors at times to make homodimeric or homotrimeric splice variants and these have a role in actual physiological processes (they were not just made in a lab.) There are also heterodimeric receptors like mu/kappa mu/delta and delta/kappa. Now mu/mu may be mu1 or mu2, but some variants previously labeled mu1or mu2 are putatively one of the homo or heterodimeric or trimeric variants.

This information started to trickle out in 2000-2001, but it was 2003 before we saw any papers outside of the researchers referencing it, and even today in 2007, we see researchers unaware of this. It seems we have gotten to the point in human knowledge where the new data vary so quickly that people have a near impossible time keeping up with data even on the perimeter of their field. When I graduated with my PhD in 1994, it seemed that CNS Pharmacology was a small enough field that when someone discovered something like this, it would quickly pass through the rank and file. But today, years go by and people who research cocaine and not opioids do not seem to know this yet. I would dread to be coming into the field at this time. There is too much to learn.

I hope you enjoy my Blog!

Mobi

</dc:description>
